No, I don't use any special substrat (with Fe, micros etc). In 180l I use some Aqualit (but only in background). In other tanks I use MHK Floran but this is nothing special (any micros), it's porous substrat based on lava/ceramics (good for bacteriums).

maybe still any turf /turf-rašelina i don`t know english name / mix in to your white substrate , or only top .
ps: woods with leaves are beautiful , thoose leaves are hornbeam leaves ?

But.. may I ask a question? It´s about the leafs.. did you use some kind of impregnation? Can you say us something abou sort of this leefs (name of tree)? And where do you take your inspiration?

Yes, It is really very beautiful, interesting aquarium.
I want to ask you the same question as Roox, about leafs....it is unusual, but showy kind of decoration....I saw leafs in aquarium at one akva exposition and I really liked it!

And what kind of wood did you use in this tank? Those slim twigs are amazing

Hi

In black water rivers and lagoons sand is natural substrat .

Leaves are very popular in Poland and many people use then in his SA biotope tank. Leaves are also good for shrimp (good for color). In my tank i use leaves from "buk" (Fagus sylvatica) and "dąb" (propably Quercus robur). You can take leaves from tree in winter/spring (february, march) when they dry and "dead" or also in end of fall when leaves are dry. Put dry leaves in cold water in pot and boil it 5-10min. Leaves can be in tank for 3-6weeks, after that time they "dissolve" and you should replace it (part of them). Be carefull with that because if you use too many leaves in tank your pH could fall down (if your KH is low). I saw that leaves people can buy in warsaw shops but...well, i like spend money for beer ...leaves i can find in forest.

Polish version : Liście należy zbierać na przełomie lutego i marca z drzew lub z ziemi pod warunkiem, że nie zaczęły gnić. Liście trzeba osuszyć. Suche liście wsadzamy do garnka z zimną wodą a następnie zagotowujemy i gotujemy 5-10minut. Tak spreparowane liście toną w wodzie i nadają się do włożenia do akwarium.

I don't know what kind of wood is that. My friend found it in polish likes year ago. It was one big wood but i cut them for smal pieces.

Maybe I´ll try black water biotope too... I saw photos from Amano´s Amazon Adveture one year ago and they amazed me !!! And the best is photo for me is (=Fried fish & beer)
